The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series is a true workhorse. It’s a go-anywhere, do-anything classic but modern ute series that is so solid it could outlive you. There is one thing that could do with some work though — the car audio system. If you want your adventures to have a soundtrack, an upgrade is highly recommended.
70 series cabs are relatively small, leaving little space for great sounds. And like most factory sound systems, a small upgrade can make a huge difference in sound quality. There are brilliant and innovative fixes for these issues. Some brands go as far as designing purpose-built solutions; head units, door pods and sub-boxes that seamlessly fit the interior aesthetic.
Three of our favourite brands are leading the way. Kenwood has a direct replacement head unit. Alpine has door pods that look out-the-box factory-fresh. And ZeroFlex has door pods and boxed subs ready to slot right in. There is a range of mini-amplifiers that push power to new speakers and tuck right away.
We had a 70 series client who wanted to keep the factory look. We threw the lot at it; front and back door pods with 6×9″ Alpine Speakers and tweeters, a Harmony Blue Note DSP, a ZeroFlex EFX 1500 amplifier, and a Kicker TCWRT82 slimline subwoofer. It sounds incredible! Watch the video below.
